Public budget for desalinated water production in 2027

The Water Development Department's budget for 2027 includes a record investment for desalinated water production, amounting to €168 million. This is an increase of €26 million compared to the 2026 budget. The decision comes amidst a climate crisis and significant decreases in water reserves. In addition to desalination plants, provisions will also cover needs for recycled water supply and infrastructure maintenance. The aim is to enhance water supply and prevent serious irrigation restrictions.
