Daily Life and Challenges in the Buffer Zone of Cyprus

The buffer zone in Cyprus houses over 10,000 residents and presents many challenges. Despite Turkish attempts to question the control of Greek Cypriots, residents continue their daily lives. The buffer zone covers 3% of the Cypriot territory and includes entire communities. The government asserts that this area belongs to the Republic of Cyprus and is managed by United Nations forces. Annually, about 1,000 incidents related to tensions in this zone are recorded.
