New Package of Measures to Combat Inflation

Finance Minister Makis Keravnos introduced a new package of measures against inflation costing over €70 million. The package includes zero VAT on essential goods like bread and milk, as well as a reduced excise tax on heating oil. Additionally, tiered subsidies for electricity and support for remote areas are planned. However, the minister emphasized that there is no definitive solution to inflation due to dependency on imports. He highlighted the importance of fiscal surpluses as a protective shield during crisis periods.
