History and Sealing of the Kotsirkas Tributary

October 6, 2026

The Kotsirkas is a tributary of the Pedieos River with a significant history. Although it was covered with concrete 50 years ago, its history dates back to the 15th century. Due to poor management and waste disposal, the Kotsirkas frequently flooded, causing damage. The river's sealing was done for hygiene reasons and it holds importance in Nicosia. Today, it still flows beneath Digenis Akritas Avenue.
