Cancer Becomes the Leading Cause of Death in Cyprus
October 7, 2026
For the first time in 30 years, cancer is now the leading cause of death in Cyprus, replacing cardiovascular diseases. This was announced during the 12th Pan-Cypriot Public Health Conference. There is a pressing need to enhance cancer prevention measures, focusing on education from an early age. Cyprus invests less in prevention compared to the European average. Collaboration across different sectors is vital for improving public health.
