Fraud through deceptive SMS and suspect arrest in Cyprus

A group of foreigners has been scamming Cypriot citizens by extracting money through deceptive SMS messages that appear to be from the General Health System and payment services for fines. So far, there have been three reports to the Larnaca Police, along with others in Nicosia and Limassol. A 24-year-old Pakistani man has been arrested and is believed to be involved in the fraud. He was found in possession of cigars and expensive lighters worth over €50,000, which are being investigated for possible money laundering. The police continue to investigate for other accomplices.
