Early Reduction of Consumption Tax on Heating Oil

October 14, 2026

The government is moving forward with a tax cut on heating oil, reducing consumption tax by 5.373 cents per liter, nine days earlier than planned. Finance Minister Makis Keravnos stated that this measure is necessary to support households, especially in mountainous areas, as weather conditions worsen. Many citizens have started stocking up on heating oil due to concerns over further price increases. So far, the average price of heating oil has increased by 77.66% since last February. Authorities are working to achieve additional tax reductions in Brussels.
