Acquisition of a Second Military Vessel by Cyprus: Naval Enhancement

October 20, 2026

Cyprus is set to acquire a second Saar 62 class patrol vessel from Israel, with delivery expected by 2028. The vessel will enhance the National Guard's naval capabilities and is expected to feature advanced weapon systems, such as the SPIKE missiles from Israeli company Rafael. This development allows for increased patrols in the Exclusive Economic Zone and participation in international drills. The deal is valued at 150 million euros and has been approved by the parliamentary Defense Committee. The original plan included the procurement of four vessels of the same class, strengthening Cyprus's naval ability.
