October 23, 2026

Defense Minister Vasilis Palm has confirmed the purchase of a second naval ship from Israel, with the contract expected to be signed next week. The new vessel will enhance Cyprus's naval capabilities and is similar to the existing "P.A.TH. Ioannidis" ship. Additionally, a contract has been signed with a Greek company for the upgrade of a naval base. The plan estimates that upgrade works will begin around late spring 2027. These developments aim to improve the maritime security of the Republic of Cyprus.
