Cyprus and Northern Europe: Different Approaches to Social Welfare
October 24, 2026
The analysis of Eurostat data for 2025 shows that Cyprus lags significantly behind Scandinavian countries in terms of social protection. While Northern countries provide strong social benefits to all age groups, Cyprus primarily relies on pensions. In Denmark, social benefits are higher than pensions, which is not the case in Cyprus. The situation is similar in Greece, where pensions are much higher than other benefits. Thus, Cyprus and Greece remain in an unbalanced social welfare model.
