New Regulations for Prohibiting Departure of Vessels in Adverse Weather Conditions
October 26, 2026
Following the deadly sea storm at Cape Greco, the Ministry of Shipping introduced new regulations prohibiting the departure of vessels in adverse weather conditions. The regulations include up to two years' imprisonment and fines of up to €8,500 for violators. Special attention is given to wind conditions of five Beaufort, which dictate the prohibition of departure for specific vessels. The regulations will be open for public consultation until November 6. The aim is to enhance safety in navigation.
