Strict Conditions for Developments at the British Bases
October 29, 2026
The Environmental Authority of the Republic of Cyprus has approved a development framework for the British bases of Akrotiri and Dhekelia, imposing strict conditions for environmental protection. Proposals for the operation of a restaurant in the sensitive area of Lady's Mile and the expansion of the tourist zone in Avdimou were rejected. The Lady's Mile area is critical for the nesting of sea turtles and the protection of rare birds. The proposed expansion of the tourist zone was deemed unjustified as the existing one remains undeveloped. Strict conditions apply to other developmental proposals in the area.
