Audit on Honorary Allowances for War Prisoners

October 29, 2026

The Audit Office conducted a review of the payment of honorary allowances to war prisoners from the 1974 Turkish invasion. It found eight cases where payments should not be made because the recipients did not meet the criteria. Some individuals were falsely claiming to be prisoners of war, taking benefits they were not entitled to. The review also uncovered additional incorrect recordings, suggesting that the number of ineligible recipients might be higher. The Ministry of Defense has removed some individuals from the list of prisoners of war.
