Changes to Dog Identification Legislation in Cyprus
October 30, 2026
A new law regarding dog identification was approved but was amended just one month after its implementation. The legislation initially included fines for dog ownership without identification, but these provisions were removed. There are 197,672 registered dogs in Cyprus, averaging 1.8 per household. The local authorities are responsible for ensuring compliance among dog owners. Additionally, there is an annual budget for cat sterilization, but the dog legislation was not fully enforced.
