Start of Mandatory Returns of Syrians in Cyprus
November 2, 2026
In recent days, Cyprus has begun the mandatory returns of Syrian nationals whose asylum applications have been rejected. The Ministry of Migration, in collaboration with other agencies, is carrying out expulsion procedures for Syrians living illegally in the country. State policies aim to reduce illegal migration and encourage voluntary return with financial incentives. The Republic of Cyprus is one of the few EU countries implementing mandatory repatriations. This process may be accelerated in the near future.
