Return of Contributions to Single and Childless Public Employees

November 3, 2026

A court ruling mandates the government to return over €5 million to 225 single and childless public sector employees. These employees had made periodic contributions for future pensions, which were withheld due to economic measures in 2012. The Supreme Court determined that not returning these contributions constitutes a deprivation of property rights. A bill is being pushed to allow the return of funds to eligible employees within 12 months of their retirement. The government has already made payments to some workers who pursued legal action.
