November 6, 2026

The Supreme Court re-examined the case of three relatives of a Cypriot socialite, who are accused in a criminal matter. It overturned a previous decision that canceled their obligation to provide genetic material. The Police had requested DNA samples since unknown genetic material was found in a bank safe. The Supreme Court found that national legislation is in line with European directives regarding personal data processing. Thus, the collection of DNA was deemed legal and necessary.
