Emerging Issues with Sick Leave in the Public Service

Every year, about 13 thousand employees in the public service request sick leave. Over 10% of these continue their leave for more than 42 days with full pay. Employees have regulations allowing them to extend their leaves, leading to instances of abuse. The Ministry of Finance provides data on sick leaves from 2020 to 2024. This situation has drawn the attention of authorities and has led to criminal investigations.
